Below is a list of the different combinations. There are twenty different amino acids which are each assigned a different color below. The 12th and 20th, colored Red below, code the command Stop.

Amino acids are linked together until a Stop command is reached. The linked amino acids form a protein.

Don't worry... You don't have to memorize this chart! This was taken from a standard Genetics textbook. We are going to explain it a different way in the pages that follow. For now just notice that the 4 bases form 64 different combinations using 3 code letters.
