Links to Scripture?

Can anyone here provide insight on possible links between the Mayan prophecies, 13-moons, and the Bible? I was raised and still am Christian and believe in the teachings an prophecy that is written in the Bible. However, anyone that has read or tried to understand the bible knows that it is mostly symbolic and hardly literal at all.

I feel a strong sense of truth in the prophecies of the Mayans and would like to be able to possibly link the two together.

Anyone have any insight on this? Or possibly any links that I can check out?

Ten Commandmends

Ten Commandments of Defense and Security. Ah! What did they defend us from and secure us in? They defended us from our originality and secured us in our ignorance.

The [Catholic] Church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen its shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the Church.
~ Ferdinand Megallan, Portuguese navigator and explorer.

The fear of God, it is said, - or, it may be added for the sake of historical truth, the fear of the Gods, - is the beginning of religion, a half-truth upon which scientific research, trying to trace the evolution of religion, ordinarily in a critical and often a hostile rather than in a sympathetic spirit, has laid undue emphasis. But not the fear of God only, for man does not act, even most primitively, from fear alone, but from twin motives, fear and desire, fear of things unpleasant and maleficent and desire of things pleasant and beneficent, - therefore from fear and interest. Life to him is primarily and engrossingly, - until he learns to live more in his soul and only secondarily in the action and reaction of outward things, - a series of actions and results, things to be desired, pursued and gained by action and things to be dreaded and shunned, yet which may come upon him as a result of action. And it is not only by his own action but by that also of others and of Nature around him that these things come to him. As soon, then, as he comes to sense a Power behind all this which can influence or determine action and result, he conceives of it as a dispenser of boons and sufferings, able and under certain conditions willing to help him or hurt, save and destroy.

I believe in God, only I spell it N-A-T-U-R-E.

Your eyes won't lie when they're allowed to see
Your sun, your skies see that you're allowed to be
Your reason why so we're wise to take heed
Your time, your earth, so plant your seeds

It's funny that you ask

It's funny that you ask that. Recently I've been reading through the book of Sirach in my Catholic Bible and separating the empowering beliefs from the disempowering beliefs. I haven't put together anything in written form yet, but I can give you a taste of what I'm trying to do.

Let's start with the basics. The Ten Commandments.

"But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns."

If my employer schedules me to work on Sunday then I am going to go to work, and god will not judge me for this. God does not want me to suffer, and by telling myself negative things because I have to work on Sunday, would cause me to suffer greatly. The only other alternative is to risk losing my job. God does not want this for you either.

You have to keep in mind when the Bible was written, not only as a vehicle for spirituality but it was also a tool for the ruling priest class to keep the proletariats working hard at running the machine.

"You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name."

I think the meaning of this commandment has lost it's place a bit. Most christians believe saying "God damnit!" is a sin. No it's not a sin and you shouldn't beat yourself up over it. It is a figure of speech. Taking the lord's name in vain is cursing your own existence and wishing that you were never born, or cursing anything else to the same degree. It's a negative state of mind that we're trying to avoid. I think this was the true intent behind this commandment.

"You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

We're getting more of the same "My religion is better than yours" type mentality here. Conceived again by the ruling priest class during the roman catholic era to keep the poor working class from attempting foolish things like changing religion. There are many stories in the bible of how other nations were crushed because they didn't believe in the right god. This is not something we're trying to embrace. We live in a world of many different religions and the sooner we can understand and accept this, the sooner we can end all the bloodshed.

Most of the other commandments are VERY good to follow. Remember that what we communicate to ourselves is most important. Empower yourself. Constantly tell yourself good things. Don't accept anything written as truth unless it has withstood the test of your heart. God wants us to be happy. Compared to the age of men, the bible has only been in existence for a tiny fraction of our evolution. What were the stories of old? How did they teach their children to live?
